Tilbury bring in former Rocks and Rovers boss John

Tilbury have announced the appointment of former East Thurrock United- and recent Great Wakering Rovers- manager John Coventry as their manager for next season.

John, who left Great Wakering Rovers just last week, and prior to that was part of the management team at Aveley, but he is best known for his time at East Thurrock United.

John was manager of the Rocks for thirteen years, stepping down when the 2019-20 season came to an early close after being at the helm for six hundred and sixty six competitive matches. He steered the club through promotions and relegations, play off victories and defeats, FA Cup runs and to Essex Senior Cup victory.

He told the club's social media outlets:

"I am very much looking forward to managing Tilbury FC, it's obviously a club I know very well having been brought up and went to school in Tilbury."

He then commented on current temporary manager, Eljay Worrell:

"The one thing I can guarantee is the effort and work rate to help Tilbury FC challenge next season. I am very aware that since losing the previous management the team has been looked after by Eljay Worrell, who I recognise has done a brilliant job. I have not yet had the chance to speak to Eljay but as soon as I do I will be giving him the opportunity to stay at the club as part of my management setup."
