Heybridge Swifts playing surface at Scraley Road often resembles a carpet, but from next season, if plans announced today come to fruition, that resemblance will remain come wind, rain or hail, as the club hope to install a 3G pitch over the summer.
Swifts, who sit firmly in the mix as the North Division promotion race heats up, today published an interview with Chairman Gary White on their website. White confirmed that planning permission had already been applied for, and that the cost of installation would be around four hundred and fifty thousand pounds, to be paid for by private donations and sponsorship and- hopefully- by the award of grants. Outlining the need for this investment, he explained:
'We have 18 youth teams at the moment and a new Academy team starting next season. They will be making use of it and providing a pathway for young players into senior football, and hopefully our first team. We also have plans for a future Development side, up to five new youth teams, a ladies team and potentially a disability side. We are also looking at areas such as walking football in the future.'
