We said in our preview that Brentwood Town had found form again at just the right time, but it eluded them at Dereham Town last night, as the Magpies closed to within two points of a top five spot with a convincing victory. That outcome didn’t look likely with twenty minutes remaining and the game still goalless, but the hosts then found their mojo. David Hinton gave them the lead, and then, with the visitors pushing for an equaliser, Toby Hilliard made it two. Hilliard had the last word, too, with a third for the Magpies right at the end. Brentwood are three points better off, in fourth place.
One match had all its goals in the last twenty minutes, another had the same number of goals- but in the first twenty, and they all went to Maldon & Tiptree number nine Shomari Barnwell- pictured, courtesy of the club. The Jammers travelled to face a Felixstowe and Walton United side also chasing a top five spot, but never gave their hosts a chance, Barnwell scoring in the fifteenth, eighteenth and nineteenth minutes. Felixstowe later had Andre Hasanally and Armani Schaar dismissed, ending a miserable night for the home fans. The Jammers are now three points away from the top five, with a game in hand.
Finally, our match between Hullbridge Sports and Grays Athletic was important at both ends of the table, but the only goal of the game decided it, in the twenty seventh minute. It went to Athletic’s Aron Gordon, and it sees them hold on to fiftrh place; whilst Sports remain third from bottom. That’s two one-nil wins for Grays against these opponents this season.
