Ambers hit the summit!

By Ian Townsend

Cheshunt go top, Waltham Abbey do the same, Tilbury hold onto pole position, and Hythe smash six! It's our round up.

Cheshunt fans must have thoroughly enjoyed watching the way their side have started the season, four wins from five seeing them start their fixture with Folkestone Invicta last in fourth place- and they’ll be enjoying even more now, as a goal in each half saw them go top!

Mo Camara gave the hosts the best possible start after only seven minutes, and although David Smith got an equaliser for Invicta just after the restart former Billericay Town title-winner Adam Cunnington popped up with the winner twelve minutes from time, a result which sees the Ambers go two points clear of Carshalton Athletic, who had been at the summit for only twenty four hours. Our headline image comes from Local Bus Driver, and you can see the entire set of his images here.

Only goal difference separated Enfield Town and Kingstonian as they kicked off at Donkey Lane last night, but by full time there were three points between them, and they all went to the Towners, who climb to fifth as a consequence. It was the K’s who got to the break with their noses in front, Corrie Andrews making the difference in the thirty eighth minute with his fourth of the campaign, but Billy Bricknell drew the hosts level five minutes after the restart, and just when it looked as if the sides would have to settle for a point each Josh Urquhart got the winner with two minutes to go.

In the North Division, leaders Tilbury entertained Great Wakering Rovers and the two were indeed entertaining, sharing six goals in a three-all draw at Chadfields. It looked as if all three points were heading home with Rovers, as they turned around an early deficit- Lewis Smith putting the Dockers ahead- to lead three one with only eight minutes remaining. Billy Harris, Oyo Odukoya and an own goal gave the visitors that advantage, but two quickfire goals from Ola Ogunwamide ensured that Tilbury took something from the match.

The South Central Division had four matches to entertain us, and Waltham Abbey fans were indeed entertained, as they watched their side go top of the table with a hard-fought win at Hertford Town. Ryan Dear and Billy Holland gave the Abbotts a comfortable half time lead, but it wasn’t all that comfortable nine minutes after the restart when Paul Symes halved the deficit. For all of Town’s endeavour they couldn’t get an equaliser, and the Abbotts are two points clear and hold on to their one hundred percent record.

The Harlow Arena saw the arrival of two sides who needed to get back to winning ways, and the one who did was not the hosts, Harlow Town, but the visitors, Hanwell Town, who saw Ogo Obi get his second hat trick of the campaign as they ran out three-nil winners. That’s now eight goals in nine matches for the Geordies striker, who sees his side up to fourth.

Ashford Town arrived at Northwood in good form, and continued it to end the night in third place. A goal in each half earned them victory, Steven Duff with the first, Sam Humphreys with the second.

Finally for the South Central, South Park hosted Chertsey Town, and the two shared four goals in a two-two draw. Sparks will perhaps feel like they’ve dropped two points as they were twice ahead, Nodi Bobumurodov’s opener cancelled out by Jake Baxter in the first half before Leon Lalor-Dell got what looked to be the winner fifteen minutes from time. However a last minute spot kick, converted by Oliver Duffy, saw the Curfews escape with a point.

Our match of the day in the South East Division, between VCD Athletic and East Grinstead Town, was rained off- so Whitstable Town v Hythe Town took top billing, and goodness, how the Cannons lived up to it, scoring six goals without reply! The Oysterboys came into this match on the back of three successive victories, but were thoroughly outclassed by a Hythe side who got three in each half- Alex Brown getting a hat trick, Alex Flisher getting the first from the spot, and Tom Walmsley- who should really change his name to Alex for continuity purposes- getting the other two.

That victory sees the Cannons climb to second place.

Where next?

And then there were seven! Seven clubs are through to the final Qualifying Round of the FA Cup- and Bishop’s Stortford will look to make it eight this evening. Here’s our round up of the action.
