Leatherhead have strengthened their midfield with the signing of former Chelsea man Jacob Mellis.
Jacob started his youth career at Sheffield United before moving to Stamford Bridge (apparently for a very large fee), and he was with the Blues for almost five years, during which he had loan spells at both Southampton and Barnsley. He eventually moved permanently to Oakwell, before moving on to Blackpool.
He then had loan time at Oldham Athletic before moving on to Bury, Mansfield Town, Bolton Wanderers, Gillingham and Southend United.
He has close on two hundred and fifty professional appearances, and has played for England at Under 16, Under 17 and Under 19 level. This is his first foray into Non League, and his signing is something of a coup for the Tanners, who will welcome his guile as they look to add goals to their new-found defensive solidity and climb away from danger.
Boss Luke Tuffs commented:
'Very excited that Jacob has agreed to sign for us. A fantastic addition that I know will excite the club as a whole. A well done and thank you to all those involved.'
