South Park FC have confirmed that Reigate & Banstead Council have granted planning permission to convert the main football pitch at King George's Field to 3G.
Delighted Sparks chairman, Ricky Kidd stated:
“This is very good news. Over the years, and as we speak, we have had to postpone and continue to postpone many games due to the bad weather and poor drainage on and around the main pitch area. Conversion to 3G would eliminate most, if not all postponements, and allow the club to plan ahead for events on match days with confidence. More importantly it will enable an increase the pitch use and allow our juniors to train and play on the pitch as well."
He added:
"We are well aware that within our club- and amongst other clubs within the community- demand continues to increase for pitch time. We will also reach out to other local community clubs and groups looking to use our new facility.”
The works will take 8-10 weeks to complete and are currently planned for the end of this playing season, subject to securing the necessary funds to proceed.
Treasurer Steve Robb explained, “The club have applied for a number of grants. However the project costs are significant and in addition to the grants we will require fund raising, donations and supporters loans. We are currently looking at various schemes to cover the project costs. Anyone wishing to make donations or looking to invest in the community’s future please get in touch. Further details will follow in the new year.”
