FA Cup- Fourth Qualifying Round Draw made

By Ian Townsend

The gateway to the promised land has been opened. Here’s who our clubs will need to squeeze past to get there.

The draw for the fourth and final Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup has just been made, and it finds seven of our clubs just one step from the promised land- and three more facing replays tomorrow night. John Motson drew the home teams, Danny Murphy the away teams- and here’s what they pulled out of the velvet bag.

Carshalton Athletic’s reward for victory at Lowestoft Town on Saturday is to welcome Dagenham and Redbridge, who sit in seventh place in the National League.

If Haringey Borough want another night on the TV then they will first have to dispose of Yeovil Town- unless, of course, the glamour of that tie means that it ends up on TV anyhow! The Glovers currently occupy third place in the National League after relegation from the Football League last term.

Our North Division invincibles, Maldon & Tiptree- the top scoring club still left in the FA Cup- travel to Royston Town, tenth place in BetVictor Southern Premier Central, whilst Margate, fresh from their magnificent win at Salisbury at the weekend, will travel to face Oxford City, eighteenth in National League South- who disposed of Hampton & Richmond Borough on Saturday.

Potters Bar Town, who shrugged off the challenge of Ware on Saturday, were named as one of John Motson’s favourites moments before he made the draw. He drew them as the home side, and then Danny Murphy paired them with a side four miles down the road, Barnet- sixth in the National League.

One of our two South East Division clubs, Whyteleafe, were first out of the velvet bag when the Southern section was drawn. They will host either Chippenham Town- 15th in National League South- or Slough Town- sixth in the same division, after the two drew 3-3 on Saturday.

Canvey Island and Bowers & Pitsea will resume hostilities tomorrow night at the Len Salmon. The winners will then host Chichester City, who started in the Extra-Preliminary Round and will perhaps quite fancy the idea of facing the Premier Division side, given they’ve already killed two giants and would like to make it a third! This is the only all-Isthmian tie, and it does- of course- mean that we’ll have at least one side in the First Round Proper.

Kingstonian were seconds from knocking Weston Super Mare out of the competition on Saturday, but have to try again at the seaside tomorrow night. If they win they will travel around the M25 to Dartford.

The draw, as it features our clubs, looks like this:

Carshalton Athletic v Dagenham and Redbridge
Canvey Island or Bowers & Pitsea v Chichester City
Dartford v Kingstonian or Weston Super Mare
Haringey Borough v Yeovil Town
Royston Town v Maldon & Tiptree
Oxford City v Margate
Whyteleafe v Chippenham Town or Slough Town
Potters Bar Town v Barnet

Winning clubs in the fourth round qualifying will earn £18,750 from The FA prize fund (the losers will collect £6,250). Matches will be played over the weekend of Saturday 19 October.
