Fans in line for festive thanks

Folkestone Invicta have designated their New Year's Eve clash with Grays Athletic in the Ryman League's top flight as a 'pay what you want' fixture for fans.

Arguably Invicta’s biggest game over the holiday period at the Fullicks Stadium, the seasonal thank you to supporters includes a free drink in the club's Stripes bar for season ticket holders.

In a statement announcing the move for the 1pm kick-off, chief executive Cliff Egan revealed that fans can thank manager Neil Cugley for originally suggesting the festive gesture to the club's board after the club's promotion winning year.

He said: “The board wanted to give something back to our fans who have been very supportive over these first few months back in the Ryman Premier Division. Neil Cugley came up with this idea and from that the chairman expanded it to including a free New Year’s Eve drink in Stripes for season ticket-holders who of course would not otherwise benefit.

“They will receive a voucher when showing their season ticket at the turnstile for a free pint of Folkestone Invicta lager in Stripes, brewed for us by Greene King, as a thank you for your support over the last year.

“I think everyone one will agree that this has been a fantastic year for the football club and I hope the supporters have enjoyed it as much as we have. At this festive time of the year we wanted to do something for our supporters and, hopefully, also introduce new supporters to the club."

He added: “We had to get permission from the Ryman League to do this and we’ve also had support from our new brewery, Greene King, who we must thank for their help in getting this idea off the ground."
