The fans of Margate and Peacehaven & Telscombe have been thanked for helping to fund the delivery of Christmas meals to senior citizens.

The Margate Rotary Club thanked supporters who donated £140 to bucket collections at Hartsdown Park when the Magpies pulled off a surprise 2-1 win at the home of the Ryman Premier's leaders on the Saturday before Christmas.

A Gate spokesman said the club was thrilled to be able to help some of the most vulnerable members of the local community.

He said: "Margate Football Club is delighted to announce that the Christmas collection by the Margate Rotary Club at the Peacehaven & Telscombe game at Hartsdown Park on Saturday 20 December 2014 raised a superb £140.

"The money raised through the generosity of both sets of fans helped the Rotary Club provide Christmas meals for the lonely and elderly across Margate. The club would also like to thank the fans of both sides who kindly donated their money at an already expensive time of year."

The Rotary club's volunteers, who brought along Santa Claus and his sleigh, pictured, are already considering teaming up with the club for future events after the success of the Christmas collection.

A spokesman for the community champions added: "We have also established a useful link between the football club and our Rotary Club that may be our mutual benefit for the future. We wish the club every success this year."
