First wins for performance kings

By David Watters

Kingstonian, Walton Casuals and Waltham Abbey are all looking forward to collecting their first Macron Performance of the Month accolades of the campaign.

Unveiled on Saturday as Macron's performance kings for March, the trio will be presented with glass trophies by the sponsors for winning the penultimate accolades of the season.

Kingstonian kept their promotion play-off hopes alive to win the Ryman Premier’s honour to recognise the division’s top monthly performance. Currently seventh, Tommy Williams’ side inflicted a 4-1 defeat on leaders Hampton & Richmond Borough at Kingsmeadow on Saturday 26 March to climb to within three points of fifth spot.

Walton Casuals are ending the season in mid-table security in Ryman South after securing results like their impressive award winning away victory at play-off chasing Worthing on Bank Holiday Monday, Anthony Gale’s Stags side running out 2-1 victors at Woodside Road despite falling behind in the first five minutes.

In terms of league placings at least, Waltham Abbey pulled off arguably the most impressive performance of the three clubs last month. Currently third from bottom and fighting to stay clear of the Ryman North’s drop zone, caretaker managers Paul Joyne and Mark Cutler guided the Abbotts to a 2-0 win over the leaders at the King's Marsh Stadium last Saturday.
