Great escape earns Baker new two year deal

Harrow Borough have rewarded manager Steve Baker with a two year contract for securing the club's future in the Ryman League's top flight.

Boro officials announced on Friday night that Baker, pictured, had committed his future to Earlsmead by agreeing a new deal five months after arriving from Ryman South Chipstead.

Appointed back in January as the successor to Dave Anderson with Boro already fighting a relegation battle, Baker masterminded a run that saw his side collect 28 points from their last 15 games to escape the drop.

Under his stewardship, the Ryman Premier club also won the Middlesex Senior Cup, reached the final of the Middlesex Senior Charity Cup and were beaten semi-finalists in the London Senior Cup.

In a statement released by officials, the club said: "Harrow Borough are delighted to announce that manager Steve Baker has committed his future to the club by agreeing to sign a two year contract."

After a playing career that took in the likes of Hayes, Yeading, Hendon, Egham Town and Chertsey Town, Baker took up a player-coaching role at the latter between 2003 and 2007 before switching to St Albans City as a first team coach in 2007.

Baker kicked off his managerial career at Egham Town in 2009 before coaching at Beaconsfield Sycob and Wingate & Finchley. He returned to management with Walton & Hersham in 2013 prior to joining the Chips.
