Green Lions eight the Swans- whilst the King George’s Field derby ends all-square

By Ian Townsend

We had two matches last night- and one of them was a goal fest!

We had a King George’s Field derby in the Pitching In Isthmian Premier last night, as Kingstonian hosted their hosts, Corinthian-Casuals. Both sides came into the match in mixed form, the K’s with only two wins from their last six and Casuals with one, so it was perhaps unsurprising that the two couldn't be separated.

Kingstonian hit first. Daniel Ajakaiye received a pass from Kershaney Samuels, went round Emmanuel Agboola in the Casuals goal and kept his composer to slot past the retreating defenders for his eighteenth of the season. They weren’t ahead for long, however, Peter Ojemen heading home on the half hour to equalise. The second half had plenty of action but no further goals, and both sides had to be content with a point.

Four hundred and twenty two watched the match, and our images is from the expert lens of Andy Nunn. See more of those here.

In the Pitching In Isthmian South Central Division Staines Town hosted Guernsey. The last time the Swans were at home they conceded twelve, and another four had been added to that by half time in this one- although at least on this occasion the hosts had managed two of their own. Those six goals came in fourteen incredible minutes. Charlton Gauvain opened the scoring for the Green Lions after twenty four minutes, and Ross Allen made it two four minutes later, before Maciej Tajs replied for the Swans. Matt Loaring restored the two goal cushion for the visitors, Jack Torbett got one back, and then Allen’s fourteenth goal in eighteen matches made it four- two on thirty eight. The best sight of the half for the hosts was probably Allen being replaced four minutes before the break.

Guernsey made it five only six minutes after the restart. Ben Acey hit the post, and Tom Jackson was there to force home the rebound. It got worse still for the hosts when Loaring made it six from the spot after a foul on Gauvain, and it was seven- an own goal- with seven minutes remaining. If the home fans hoped it couldn’t get any worse, they were disappointed when Will Fazakerley scored from the spot with two minutes left, but at least that was the end of their torture.

The Green Lions are sixteenth, whilst the Swans are rock bottom.
