Head Wasp leaves the nest

East Grinstead announce a managerial departure

East Grinstead Town have announced that manager Matt Longhurst has left the club.

Matt took the role in October 2015, and has been able to maintain the Wasps position at Step Four despite relatively limited resources. Last season they finished thirteenth in the South East Division, the highest placing in their history, but this season has not been at all positive, with the club sitting bottom of the table without a victory.

Their last two fixtures saw them lose twelve-three at Hastings United, and three-one against Cray Valley PM; indeed there has been only one bright moment all season, a five-nil win against Chichester City in the Velocity Trophy which stands out as a beacon in a sea of disappointment.

A club statement- which you can read here- explains that 'results this season have been disappointing and haven’t met the expectations of either Matt or the club’s committee and it was mutually agreed that a change was needed.'

Assistant Manager Grant Hearn and club captain Drew Cooney will take temporary charge, and the club invite applications for the manager's position by email to eastgrinsteadtownfc@gmail.com
