Hendon part company with Duberry

Former Chelsea and Leeds United defender Michael Duberry has left Hendon less than three weeks into the new Ryman Premier campaign.

Duberry, pictured playing for Oxford United last year, spent pre-season with the Greens and signed shortly before their opening-day win over Thamesmead Town. The 37-year-old played a part in each of Hendon’s first four games against Thamesmead Town, Dulwich Hamlet, Maidstone United and Leiston.

Greens manager Gary McCann says the club were left with no option but to part company with the former England U21 international after revealing that he was unhappy with the dynamic Duberry brought to the side.

McCann said: "He had been in for the first four games, and I looked at the dynamic of the group. The three centre-halves I have are all very good and I just felt it wasn’t right. I didn’t think it was right for the squad. I had to ask whether he was here for the long-term and if he was going to unsettle the group going forward. It was my decision and I had to act. I wished him all the best for the future."
