Lowestoft Town started the night with a three point lead at the top and a game in hand- and the chasing pack hoped they would end the night with the same lead, but a late, late goal finally saw them overcome ten man Brentwood Town at the Brentwood Centre Arena.
Brentwood were in fine form, and came into the match having gone eight games without defeat and won their previous four, whilst the leaders were three unbeaten. Both meetings last season ended all square, and it looked like we were heading for a similar outcome when we reached the last few minutes without a goal. Four minutes from time, however, Brentwood were reduced to ten men, Jonathan Nzengo seeing red, and the visitors quickly made their advantage tell, Harvey Sayer scoring a last minute goal to give them three points. It was Sayer’s twenty second goal in all competitions this season, and it might turn out to be one of the most important.
Brentwood remain fifth.
