Phoenix Sports and Beckenham Town occupied two of the bottom three places as they met on Wednesday night, and were separated by six points, Sports out of the bottom two only on goal difference. On that basis this was a match that both needed to win- and certainly one that neither side could afford to lose- so we thought we might get a rather cagey affair, but as it turned out, we were entirely wrong!
Sports charged into an early two goal lead, Daniel Duncanson opening the scoring on ten minutes and Ryan Hayes doubling the advantage eight minutes later- but then the visitors finally got going, and two goals in two minutes brought them level, Jaheim Whyte (someone please change his name on Football Web Pages, as Jamiem Nhyte is someone else entirely!) pulling the first one back on twenty four minutes, and Rhys Wyborn levelling almost immediately. It looked as if that was that for the first half, but deep in added time Sports regained their lead, Luke Leppard with the fifth goal of the first forty five minutes.
It seemed as if Sports would hold on this time, and widen the gap between themselves and the drop zone, but seven minutes from time Steven Townsend decided to have the final word, a fine equaliser to earn Becks a point.
