Hornets sign a European Champion!

Former England keeper heads to Horsham

Horsham have announced the signing of former England Under 17 keeper Sam Howes.

Sam was still sixteen years old when he was part of the England squad that won the Under 17 European Championship, whilst part of the West Ham United Academy. Whilst a Hammer he went on to play on loan for Wealdstone and Hampton and Richmond Borough, before leaving the Hammers to sign up with Watford.

Whilst with the other Hornets he played on loan with Eastbourne Borough, and after departing Vicarage Road he signed for Woking. He has also played for Chelmsford City and, most recently, up the A24 from Horsham at Dorking Wanderers.

Dom Di Paola told the club website:

“I’m amazed we’ve got him in. He’s had a couple of bad seasons in terms of playing time and just wants to get himself back up to the level he knows he can play. It sounds weird but I’d be really keen to see him get himself a move somewhere after a few seasons and go and play at a higher level because I think he’s got the capabilities to play at least two leagues higher.

“He just needs to get the enjoyment back in his game and get his confidence back because he’s a little low in terms of how he feels in his football at the moment. We can help with that because we’ve had lots of boys like that. Most of the lads who have signed for us down the years are because it’s not worked out somewhere else.”
