Hornets snap up Hamilton

Horsham

Former Lewes and Tonbridge Angels hot-shot Lewis Hamilton has been unveiled as the latest player to sign for Horsham as manager Simon Colbran continues the summer makeover of his Ryman South squad.

The 28-year-old, who began his career at Derby County and made one appearance for Queens Park Rangers before moving on to Aldershot Town, signed forms with the Hornets on Saturday. He is the latest name on Colbran and assistant manager Gary Charman's impressive list of summer signings.

Karly Akehurst will not be wearing a Horsham shirt next season though after the club announced on their website that he'd become the latest player to join newly-promoted Peacehaven & Telscombe. The Hornets have also missed out on Worthing striker Jamie Brotherton who's also gone to the Sussex champions despite previous indications that his future lay at Goring’s Mead.

Colbran and Charman have been busy in recent days despite the set-back. The majority of last season’s side have already re-signed including Supporters’ Player of the Year Michael Hunter, James Brockhurst, Charlie Farmer, Tony Nwachukwu, Matt Simpson, Jahmahl King, Scott Harris and Billy-Joe King.

Arrivals include Jamie Cade, Byron Napper and Ross Morley who've all switched from Crawley Down Gatwick along with former Hornet Miles Mitchell. He returns after ending the last campaign with John Maggs’ Anvils.

Other new faces include striker Emmanuel Oloyede who's played for Farnborough Town and Knaphill while one-time Brentford apprentice Steve Ibizugbe looks set to give Tony Nwachukwu a run for his money in every sense, having excelled over 100 metres.

The 20-year-old can play at right-back or central midfield, and spent much of last season playing for Leatherhead’s U21s. Nihum Green, who includes Kettering Town and Ebbsfleet United among his former clubs, has also signed leaving Colbran happy with his summer's work so far.

He told the club's official website: "Pre-season has gone brilliantly. We’ve had some terrific sessions so far and everyone has shown a tremendous attitude and appetite for the game. Gary and I have had to make some tough decisions but the players we have signed have really impressed me so I'm excited about this season and can’t wait to get going."
