Former Colchester United striker Jamie Guy could start for Heybridge Swifts on Saturday at Redbridge after agreeing terms to join manager Jody Brown’s Ryman North squad.

The 26-year-old switched on Friday after his move to Needham Market in August didn’t work out and he was transfer listed before Christmas.

Guy, pictured, played 52 times for Colchester United in the Championship before playing a key role in Braintree’s promotion push to the Conference Premier. His hopes of making his Swifts debut are subject to his registration paperwork going through in time to play against the Motormen.

The forward, who battled back from suffering a double leg break at Cressing Road in February 2011 while playing in the Conference, was at Maldon and Tiptree last season before signing for Needham Market last August. He’d made 21 appearances for the Suffolk side this season, scoring nine goals in the process after penning a two year deal for Needham manager Mark Morsley.

Swifts manager Brown first worked with Guy when the pair were both at Colchester’s Layer Road. He's looking forward to it again and said: "I feel that bringing in Jamie could be key to our rebuilding plans. I’ve worked with Jamie at three clubs going back to when he was 16 years old at Colchester United. We have a very good relationship and both I and Jamie himself are confident that we can get the best out of him here at Heybridge."

Guy will have the opportunity to take on his former club on Tuesday 25 February when Swifts travel to Needham for the rearranged Ryman North fixture, postponed on Saturday due to a waterlogged Bloomfields pitch.
