Keepers collecting inaugural awards

By David Watters

The Ryman League’s first Precision Goalkeeping Golden Gloves winners of the new season are Tonbridge Angels stopper Anthony Di Bernards, Steve Phillips at Phoenix Sports and Brannon Daly at Walton Casuals.

The trio were named on Friday as the inaugural winners of the monthly ‘safe hands’ honours in the Ryman Premier, Ryman North and Ryman South divisions which are sponsored by Nottingham-based Reydon Sports PLC, the UK's largest sports and leisure wholesale and distribution company.

Through their Precision Goalkeeping brand, the keepers can all look forward to receiving a pair of Precision Goalkeeping gloves provided by ProKit UK, the nominated retailer administering the awards on their behalf.

Di Bernards collects the award for the Ryman's top flight for his record of conceding a single goal in five wins and a draw for Tonbridge since the season kicked off.

Signed in May 2015 from Peacehaven & Telscombe, the 33-year-old shot stopper has since solve a selection problem at the heart of defence at the Longmead Stadium for manager Steve McKimm.

In Ryman North, Phillips conceded twice in five straight wins for Phoenix Sports, both goals coming in a 6-2 win for the table-toppers over Aveley.

Ryman South winner Brannon Daly switched to Walton Casuals from Merstham in November 2015 and conceded a three goals in four league outings to earn the division's honours.

Precision Goalkeeping boast an impressive list of keeping talent on their books including Kasper Schmeichel, Kieren Westwood, Tomasz Kuszczak, Darren Randolph, David Forde, Frank Fielding, Brian Jensen, Robert Olejnik, Andy Lonergan, Ian McLoughlin, Trevor Carson and Republic of Ireland goalkeeping coach and former international Alan Kelly.

Former England manager Graham Taylor is lead ‘brand ambassador’ for the company which was established in 2005 and also has official partnerships with the Irish Football Association and the Football Association of Wales.
