Former Thamesmead Town manager Keith McMahon returned to the Ryman League on Thursday as the new manager of VCD Athletic.

A recharged McMahon, pictured, was named as the successor to Tony Russell who left the Vickers last week after securing their Ryman Premier status to replace Tony Warrilow at Cray Wanderers, the latter winning a club record 10 games on the spin to keep the Wands in the Ryman League before departing.

McMahon stood down as Thamesmead manager back in January after taking the Ryman North club from the Kent League to the Ryman's top flight during his eleven years at Bayliss Avenue.

At the time the 42-year-old said he needed a break from the game but has been keeping his hand in since as a guest presenter on the Ryman Round-up Show, the two hour weekly phone-in show on Thursday nights for fans, players and officials on community station Hawks Radio.

McMahon kicked off his touchline career at Oakwood coaching VCD's U18s and the club's officials confirmed his return in a brief statement on their website.

The Vickers said: "VCD Athletic are pleased to announce the appointment of Keith McMahon as the manager with immediate affect. We all wish him well in his new role."
