Mishi Morath R.I.P.

By Ian Townsend

We pay tribute to Mr Dulwich Hamlet

Anyone who has been watching our league prior to the last two seasons will undoubtedly have come across Dulwich Hamlet supporter Mishi Morath. Mishi was a lifelong supporter and volunteer at Champion Hill (and, of course, for a short period at Imperial Fields, a time when he even admitted his grudging respect for Tooting & Mitcham United), and a dedicated follower of Non League football; a man who, as he would freely admit, would travel to just about any field in London and the South East to watch twenty two men kick a ball around. If you didn't meet him at Hamlet, then there is every likelihood that you would have seen him at another ground near you- or being interviewed on your TV last month as Hamlet entertained Carlisle United in the FA Cup.

Mishi had a heart attack last year- typically, whilst watching a football match- and had a slow recovery, but before the end of the season was back watching Hamlet and was present at a number of our Playoff Semi-Finals and Finals. Sadly he was taken ill again last week and rushed to Kings College Hospital, and we've just heard that he passed away this morning.

We'd like to send our love and sympathies to his family, to his Hamlet family, and to all of his friends- and we were all his friends, as we all shared his passion for our Non-League game. Our lives will be poorer for his passing (we'll even miss his regular weekly moan at us about electronic programmes) but have been enriched by his presence in them for so many years.

Rest in Peace Mishi.
