Moles keep their great escape alive

By Ian Townsend

Binfield are our only Tuesday winners as Baggies and Villa, Met and Woods can’t be separated

Second bottom Binfield, ten points from safety at kick off, had moved temporarily to the mud-free environs of Ascot United to ‘welcome’ Sutton Common Rovers. The Moles went ahead in first half added time, Mitchell Parker scoring from the spot, and right at the end of the second half they made it two, Tyler D’Cruz’s lovely lob securing three critical points and narrowing that gap to seven points- with three games in hand.

Badshot Lea have moved temporarily to Slough Town to try and escape the need to play football in wellingtons, and they welcomed Hanworth Villa. The Villains went ahead on twenty minutes, Ben Geraghty with the opener, but the Baggies levelled just after the hour, Joshua Keeya taking his tally for the season up to eight with a deflected effort- and that momentum saw them ahead just four minutes later, Baback Dehghani making it two-one with an easy finish after fine work from Kareem Akinnibi and Lamin Ceesay. It looked as if a home win was confirmed as the match got to ninety minutes with no further score, but deep in added time Ben Merson grabbed a point for the visitors.

According to the visitors- via social media- they were taking on ten men by then as Nick Medcraft had picked up a second yellow for the Baggies in the penultimate minute, but there’s no record of that on the hosts social media or on Football Web Pages, so we’ll leave that one with the referee!

Finally, Metropolitan Police welcomed Northwood. Neither side are mathematically clear of relegation, but a point each after a goalless draw sees them both very close to confirming another season at Step Four. The hosts hit the bar deep in added time, the Woods had earlier hit the post, but neither side could direct the ball into the net.
