Monday Night Football!

By Ian Townsend

We have, rather unusually, three matches tonight! Robins and Invicta meet in the Pitching In Isthmian Premer, whilst it's Premier v North x2 in the Velocity Cup

We really didn't expect to see Carshalton Athletic and Folkestone Invicta in the lower reaches of the table, and we really don't expect them to be there for long, but both sides are in rather urgent need of points as they meet at Colton Avenue in the Pitching In Isthmian Premier this evening.

The Robins have been in rather reasonable form of late, a Trophy victory and two league wins giving them a three match winning streak before leaders Bishop's Stortford brought them down to earth on Saturday. Travelling Invicta looked back in good shape when winning four-nil at Corinthian-Casuals last Tuesday night, but then fell to defeat against Kingstonian on Saturday to continue their start/stop campaign. Both sides have matches in hand over nearly all of the sides above them, but will need to find some points if they want to be in the hunt for prizes.

Invicta have failed to defeat the Robins on their last six attempts, losing four of them. The last time they journeyed to Colston Avenue, last November, a Dan Bassett hat trick and goals from Luke Read and Lewis White saw the Robins win five-nil. At least Invicta won't have to face that trio this season.

The Velocity Cup sees Aveley, third in the Premier Division, welcome North Division Tilbury. The Dockers conceded five at Heybridge Swifts on Saturday and will need to be at their very best if they are to get back to winning ways at Parkside- against a Millers side who defeated them four-nil when they last met, back on Easter Monday. The Millers are in fine form in front of goal, scoring three goals in three of their last four matches, culminating in a three-nil win over Haringey Borough on Saturday.

Borough have an early chance to get back to winning ways as they make the trip to the Len Salmon to take on Hashtag United. This is, we believe, the first time the clubs have ever met- and both have defeats to recover from, after the Tags were thrashed four-nil at felixstowe & Walton United on Saturday. Prior to Saturday both sides had been going well- the Tags had won four in a row, whilst Borough were also on a four match unbeaten run.

Kick off in all of our matches is at 7.45 PM
