Ryman League Premier Division

Bank Holiday Monday saw two matches in the Ryman Premier called off just before kick-off due to waterlogged pitches and a first defeat of the season for Maidstone United, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Stones went down to a last-gasp defeat at Longmead against relegated Tonbridge Angels where a crowd of 1,168 saw Alex Teniola win it for the hosts in injury-time.

That left Margate to become the only side left with a 100 per cent record after an emphatic 5-1 win at the Dripping Pan against a Lewes side who have yet to win.

Ryan Moss gave Margate an early fifth minute lead that James Fergany cancelled out after 13 minutes. But parity lasted barely four minutes as Moss added his second to restore Gate`s lead.

Perhaps the turning point of the game came with three minutes of the first half remaining when the Rooks had Ollie Rowe dismissed for a last-man foul on Jason Prior. Charlie Allen added a third for the visitors four minutes after the restart and then Tom Phipp on 57 minutes made it 4-1, with Moss completing his hat-trick with 20 minutes still to go.

Kingstonian, whose game was postponed along with Metropolitan Police`s against Hampton & Richmond Borough, and Witham Town are the only other teams yet to be beaten in 2014-15.

Newly-promoted Witham made it an incredible five draws from six games after sharing a 1-1 draw at the Village Glass Stadium against third-placed Leiston.

Veteran striker Cliff Akurang broke the deadlock to give the Suffolk visitors the lead on the hour-mark, but recent signing Kurt Smith equalised after 68 minutes – five minutes after coming off the bench.

A depleted Dulwich Hamlet side slipped to their first defeat of the season at a very soggy Fetcham Grove against promoted Leatherhead, new signing Stacy Long scoring for a second successive game to give the Tanners a 10th minute lead that Richard Avery eventually doubled 10 minutes from the end.

Bury Town recorded their first win of the new season at Ram Meadow against ten-man Canvey Island.

Recent recruit Steve Holder gave the Blues the lead on the half-hour mark. And they were given a helping hand when Canvey`s Anthony Thomas received two yellow cards and was dismissed in the 58th minute.

Bognor Regis Town still can`t manage a victory, but picked up a point from a 1-1 draw in the Sussex derby at newly-promoted Peacehaven& Telscombe.

It looked as though the Rocks were finally going to get off the mark as they led through Ollie Pearce`s 54th minute opener right until stoppage time when Evan Archibald popped up with the hosts` equaliser.

Hendon made it four wins from their six games after seeing off landlords Harrow Borough 2-0 at `home`, Leon Smith giving the Greens a 35th minute lead that full-back Ollie Sprague doubled two minutes into the second half.

Grays Athletic ensured Essex rivals AFC Hornchurch remained winless after a 1-0 success at Mill Field with recent recruit Jamie Guy maintaining his good start to his Grays career by scoring what proved to be the winner with 20 minutes remaining.

Another Essex derby saw Billericay Town enjoy a 2-0 win at New Lodge against East Thurrock United. Junior Appiah gave the Blues a 29th minute lead that was eventually doubled in the 68th minute by Richard Halle.
