Monday's Ryman Premier action review

By David Watters

Wingate & Finchley missed the opportunity to move to the top of the Ryman League's Premier Division table on Monday night after suffering a 2-0 defeat in the North London derby against Enfield Town, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

A crowd of 331 at the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium saw Town, who have recovered from a poor start to the season and for whom this was a fourth match unbeaten, play for 64 minutes with ten-men after defender Micky Parcell received two red cards within a couple of minutes.

But, despite being a man light, home keeper Nathan McDonald was largely untroubled throughout. They went into the break all-square at 0-0 and Town battled well against a confident Wingate side, but neither side could quite make the final ball count.

But, only three minutes after the start of the second half, the hosts took the lead when Claudio Vilcu powered home a corner. Then with 17 minutes to go, Town double their lead, Bobby Devyne with a glorious finish.
