Motormen motor to victory

Redbridge hit ten man Athletic for four

Redbridge welcomed Grays Athletic to Oakside, but as it turned out, on the pitch at least they weren’t all that welcoming! This was the second of four home games in a row for the Motormen, who won the first of those against Basildon United on Tuesday night, and they made it one defeat from seven and five unbeaten by giving their visitors something of a thumping.

The hosts went ahead on twenty four minutes, a foul on Lewis Clark giving Jack Chawner the chance to convert from the spot- and seeing Athletic defender Alejandro Machado dismissed for what was a rather daft challenge. Within four minutes it was two-nil, Tendai Quamina capitalising on a defensive error and delivering a beautiful chip over the keeper to double his sides advantage. The third arrived six minutes before the break, Chawner finishing well from distance, and although Charlie Stimson quickly got a goal back from the spot the hosts made sure eight minutes into the second half, Soumen Nandi picking his spot from just inside the box.

Athletic defeated the Motormen as recently as March 16th, so revenge was both speedy and sweet. Redbridge are fourteenth- two places but eleven points better off than their visitors.
