New boys collect inaugural accolade

Fittingly for White's Ryman League newboys who were flying high in third spot before kicking off against Guernsey in the Channel Islands on Saturday, they were named as one of August's trio of winning clubs alongside Tonbridge Angels in the top flight and Cray Wanderers in Ryman North for their first ever outing following promotion, a 4-0 win at Carshalton Athletic's Colston Avenue on the opening day of the season, Saturday 8 August.

White is pictured collecting the accolade on behalf of last season's Sussex County League runners-up from Ryman League director and Whitstable Town chairman Gary Johnson before his side recorded their seventh home win of the season last Saturday, a 2-0 win over the Oystermen at the Westhumble Playing Fields.

Like the Wanderers, Tonbridge Angels and Cray Wanderers have been presented with glass trophies as the first winners of Macron's monthly competition to recognise the Ryman League's top performers.

As in previous seasons, the competition's judges made their choices after considering a shortlist of potential clashes and taking into account the form and circumstances behind the winning performances.

* Multi-tasking White now has a right-hand man to turn to on the touchline after appointing former Brentford and Crystal Palace academy coach Gary Pascoe as his assistant manager. Pascoe has also worked at Ryman Premier Leatherhead.
