Wingate & Finchley's new director of football Simon Lane has confirmed that Daniel Nielsen has agreed to assist him as first-team coach when the Blues kick off in next season's top flight campaign in the Ryman League.

In a statement on the Ryman Premier club's website, Lane said: "I'm delighted that Danny has agreed to stay. I did my research as usual, and during discussions it quickly became apparent that we have similar philosophies. I think we will provide the right coaching culture and learning environment for our players to progress."

Agreeing a new deal to carry on his work at the Harry Abrahams Stadium comes after Nielsen was awarded with a testimonial season at last Sunday's awards night for his long service and over 430 appearances for the Blues as a player.

Lane was named last week as the successor to David Norman who stepped down as director of football following the club's final outing of the campaign.

Working alongside manager Nielsen, he helped the club to set a new best ever points total in the Ryman's top flight of 67, beating their record of 59 points from the 2011-12 campaign.

Lane has managed in Malta at Premier League level, at Windsor & Eton, scouted for AFC Wimbledon and most recently was Johnson Hippolyte's first team coach at Conference South Maidenhead United. As well as leading the club's first-team management structure, he is overseeing the club's youth development programme.
