Oaks, Millers and Hillians slay giants on a day of South East cup glory

By Ian Townsend

We also have six for Chatham, whilst Sheppey and Corinthian earn draws against higher level opposition. It's our South East cup round up.

Ashford United welcomed Hanworth Villa to Homelands, and effectively won the match in the first half an hour. Adem Ramadan’s thunderbolt made it one-nil after six minutes, Luke Diakiesse made it two on twenty nine, and the Villians consolation came just before full time, Sam Merson from the spot.

Carshalton Athletic hosted VCD Athletic at Colston Avenue and finally hit the heights they’ve been threatening all season. Tom Beere and Brad Williams put them two-nil up at the break, and after it they added three more, Calvin Ekpiteta, Crossley Lema and Ollie Cook with those. Ryan King-Elliott got a late consolation for Vickers.

Corinthian-Casuals saw Burgess Hill Town travel to Tolworth. The Hillians have had a torrid start to their Pitching In Isthmian South East campaign, losing every league match- but they delivered a giant killing here. Lewis Finney opened the scoring for the visitors on the half hour, before Dan Perry- a veteran of their last famous cup run- made it two just before the break. Ben Checklit did get one back for the hosts, and they had twenty four minutes to find an equaliser, but the Hillians held on for a famous victory.

Cray Valley PM welcomed Hastings United to Kent, and the Millers slayed those giants emphatically, winning three-nil. Sonny Black opened the scoring on thirteen minutes, Dan bennett doubled the advantage nine minutes before half time, and the same player got the third ten minutes after the break on an abject day for United. Another cup run for the Millers? They’ll hope so!

East Grinstead Town will take great pride from their Pitching In Isthmian Performance of the Month Award win for August, and they’ll also take pride from becoming the first side to take anything from Pitching In Isthmian South East leaders Beckenham Town. Louie Theophanous twice put Becks ahead, his first goal coming as early as the third minute, but both times the Wasps hit back, Matt Daniel and Tahjae Anderson earning them a replay.

Hythe Town welcomed Hayes & Yeading United, in mid table in Pitching In Southern Premier South, but unbeaten in five and with only one defeat all season. The Cannons held their higher-ranked opponents for seventy three minutes, and then sadly conceded two late goals to depart the competition.

Leatherhead's Fetcham Grove played host to Chichester City in the meeting of two all-green-mean-machines- but it was the visiting green mean machine which was the meaner. Elliott Buchanan gave the Tanners the lead eight minutes before the break, but the visitors were level by half time through Ethan Pritchard, and a minute after the restart, ahead- Josh Clack making it two-one. Try as they might, there was no way back for the Tanners.

Metropolitan Police were the hosts as Corinthian travelled to Imber Court- and it was a fine performance for our hoops, who will take the boys in blue back to Kent for a midweek replay. Twice the visitors responded to going a goal down; Oscar Housego and James Allen earning them a two-two draw.

Midhurst & Easebourne welcomed Chatham Town, and our Chats delivered a masterclass in the art of demolition, firing home six goals without reply. The Chats travelled on the back of four consecutive victories, and their confidence was apparent as Dan Bradshaw, Jack Evans (2), Emmanuel Oloyede (2) and Fabio Saraiva fired them into the next round.

Sevenoaks Town welcomed Kingstonian to Greatness Park and were the latest addition to our list of giantkillers, as the K’s departed the competition. Ryan Gondoh scored twice for Oaks, and although Louis Collins got a late consolation for the K’s, that was all it was.

Sheppey United defeated a Sussex side, Newhaven, in the last round- and they were two goals ahead against another from a rather higher level, Lewes. Warren Mfula got the two goals, six minutes before the break and nine minutes after it, but that sparked the Rooks into life, Joe Taylor and Razz Coleman De-Graft quickly drawing them level. There were thirty two minutes for someone to find a winner, but neither side managed it, so we’re off to the Pan on Tuesday night. Daniel Birch picked up a late red card for the Ites- who have know drawn in each of the last three rounds.
