Only three pints for marathon man Dowson!

Hampton & Richmond Borough's Alan Dowson has revealed his strict training regime for running in Sunday's Walton-on-Thames half marathon - three pints only after after yesterday's trip to Tonbridge Angels in the Ryman Premier!

The 44-year-old, pictured, is tackling the 13 mile run in aid of the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow charity and called for the Beavers faithful to back him in an article on the club's website ahead of the 2-0 reverse in Kent.

Dowson said: "My preparation has been getting better and better, I'm improving all the time. Last Saturday night I only had five pints, and this weekend my training will intensify. This Saturday I'll be down to three jars, my preparation for the half marathon is inch perfect!"

Dowson, who replaced joint-bosses Paul Barry and Darren Powell in September after the club's FA Cup exit after seven years as Kingstonian manager, added: "In all seriousness though this is a huge thing for me. It's such a great cause and I hope I am in good enough shape to run it in good time.

"I have received some great support so I have decided to open an online account so those that have access to the internet can contribute if they wish. I am representing the club so will give this everything I have got."

If Sunday's half-marathon had been taking place next weekend Dowson might have had more trouble sticking to his strict training programme thanks to a unique offer the Beavers are running for supporters next Saturday.

After designating their top flight clash against VCD Athletic as a 'Pay What You Want' fixture, officials are hoping to tempt fans into parting with the regular £10 admission price at the turnstiles with a plate of chips and a free cold beer!
