Osei to the rescue again

By Peter Butcher

LEISTON collected their second successive away point with a 2-2 draw at Wingate tonight (Tuesday) in the only Ryman Premier game to survive the recent heavy rain.

After a scoreless first half in which Wingate’s Bobby Smith saved a penalty, Nathan Stone gave the visitors the lead in the 54th minute, somewhat against the run of play. Ryan Gardiner replied six minutes later and a deflected shot by Leon Smith put the hosts in front with 11 minutes left.

As he had on Saturday, Emmanuel Osei rescued Leiston with an 84th-minute equaliser and the Premier newcomers edged a point clear of the two sides below them in the table.

A last-minute header by Nick Sullivan earned Worthing a 2-1 League Cup victory at Horsham and a home tie against Hastings United in the last 16. Ryan Marriott had put Horsham ahead after 32 minutes but Luke Gedling levelled matters before half-time.
