Pitching In Isthmian Performance of the Month, August 2023

By Ian Townsend

Our first Performance of the Month winners of the season have been announced

It’s been a fine start to the season, in what has often been some rather autumnal weather. Here are our very first Performance of the Month winners of the campaign.

Pitching In Isthmian Premier

Chatham Town have had a magnificent start to their very first Pitching In Isthmian Premier campaign, and whilst they have delivered a number of notable results we’ve decided that their visit to Champion Hill on August Bank Holiday Monday is the one deserving of greater recognition.

The Chats, in front of a crowd of two thousand, two hundred and eighty two, took the lead just before the break- Jamie Yila with his fourth goal of the season. Nine minutes after the restart Jack Evans made it two, and although Hamlet got a goal back Evans then added a third and a fourth to clinch his hit track and surely the match. It was five-one when Yila scored again just before the end, and a goal for the hosts deep into stoppage time made little difference to the outcome.

Congratulations to all at the Bauvill Stadium, on what may not be their last trophy of the season!

Pitching In Isthmian North

Lowestoft Town have had a fine start to the campaign, but we’ve picked out their first win of the season to recognise. On August 19th the Trawler Boys sailed to the centre of the county, the extremely landlocked Corby- and Corby Town- their hosts. Corby, of Pitching In Northern Premier Division One Midlands, welcomed more than five hundred fans to Steel Park, but the vast majority of them left miserable after seeing their side crushed, four-nil. Jake Reed was the main architect of their misfortune, the Lowestoft number nine delivering a hat trick, with Kyle Haylock contributing the other other goal- the second.

Many congratulations to the Trawler Boys.

Pitching In Isthmian South Central

It was the opening day of the season, and Hartley Wintney, competing as Isthmians for the first time, were hoping to bounce back quickly from their Pitching In Southern Premier relegation a few months before. Hosts Chipstead, however, had other ideas. After the two sides shared goals in the first half, going in level at two-two, the Chips rather took control after the break, smashing home four goals without reply to seal a six-two victory.

There were five different scorers for the hosts, Chad Goulter, Dan Berry, Lewis Taylor, Reuel Powell-Downey and Arlie Desanges with two each breaching the visitors rearguard.

Congrats to all at the club.

Pitching In Isthmian South East Division

We’re heading back to the opening day of the competitive season, an FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tie at the Sportsfield in Littlehampton. The Golds were at home but, oh, Dere!

Erith & Belvedere, newly promoted to Pitching In Isthmian South East, travelled to Littlehampton Town to take on a side who had recently completed a very solid debut season at our level, and we expected a close match. What we got was anything but close, the visiting Deres firing home six goals without reply. Josh Ajayi got the first two, Finn O’Mara made it three-nil at the break, and in the second half Chris Dickson added two more before TQ Addy rounded things off with the sixth.

Many congratulations to the Deres on a fine victory, and you’re about to receive a momento to remember it by.
