Pitching In Isthmian Performance of the Month Awards, November 2022

By Ian Townsend

We honour the best performances of November

We’ve another month filled with superb performances and giant killings, and indeed the awards in two of our divisions were so clear cut that it seemed almost futile to produce a shortlist (we did, and it was). Here, then, are our best performances of November 2022.

Pitching In Isthmian Premier

On November 26th Hornchurch travelled to play the only side above them in the table, Potters Bar Town. We expected a tough, close encounter, and what we got was a superb Urchins performance which saw them crash home five goals and leave with the match ball and three points. Liam Nash got the hat trick, Sam Higgins the other two, and Hornchurch got three points and a large psychological advantage over a close rival. Five-two was the final score, and a trophy will soon be winging its way to Bridge Avenue in recognition.

Pitching In Isthmian North

Heybridge Swifts won our October award for their giant killing victory over Potters Bar Town (who have now been on the receiving end of two prize winners in two months)- and Swifts make it a win double as we’re sending another prize their way. On November 19th National League North side Hereford came to call in the FA Trophy, and the Bulls were anything but bullish by the end, a dominant home performance seeing them firmly dumped out of the competition. Goals from Ross, Rhys and Rob- Wall, Henry and Harvey- made it three-nil, and a Third Round tie with Hungerford Town to come. Congratulations to Swifts- again.

Pitching In Isthmian South Central

It’s, erm, déjà vu all over again! We gave our October award to Uxbridge for their win over Wingate and Finchley, and we’re doing it again, after the club took an even bigger scalp in the next round, that of National League South Dover Athletic. The visitors went ahead early on, but the hosts equalised with nineteen minutes to go, Jordan Ireland with the goal- and they then went on to triumph conclusively in the penalty shootout to seal a Third Round tie at Dagenham & Redbridge. Many congratulations to all at Honeycroft- at this rate you’re going to need a bigger trophy cabinet!

Pitching In Isthmian South East Division

November was a fine month for newcomers Littlehampton Town, but perhaps the finest moment came when leaders Ramsgate arrived at the Sportsfield. The Golds- who, by the way, were also nominated for their four-one win over Beckenham Town- delivered two late goals to de-horn the Rams, Joe Benn and Dion Jarvis seeing them take three points in a two-nil win. Many congratulations to all at the club.
