Pitching In Isthmian Supporters Predictions 22-23: Sevenoaks Town

By Ian Townsend

We're off to Greatness Park, and supporter Steve Rowley is predicting matching greatness for his team this season.

We're asking fans from each of our clubs to answer a series of questions about the past, present and future- and to predict the final league table for 22-23. Steve brings us all the best of Sevenoaks Sport.

1. Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?
That’s easy – that’ll be the signing of our new manager, Harry Hudson. He came in in February when we were in a huge relegation battle and literally turned the season around with eight wins out of the last nine matches, including a last day win at newly crowned champions Hastings United.

2. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 2022-23?

At Sevenoaks Town, it’s become more about the team than any one individual. However, Omari ‘Winja’ Hibbert has been retained by the club and he looks on fire in the pre-season after working on his fitness throughout the summer break. Defenders should be very worried.

3. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?
I believe that Sevenoaks Town have got a great chance of finishing near the top of the table this season. With the signings that they have made during the summer, the amount of retained players from the end of last season, and with manager Harry Hudson at the helm, there is great belief that the club can go all the way this year.

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

The games against our local rivals Corinthian are always the first I look for when the fixtures come out! There is great respect between the two clubs and the games a normally quite tight affairs. I am also quite excited to visit Littlehampton Town as well as a new venue on the calendar for us.

5. What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?

I’ve always enjoyed the trip down to Three Bridges - it’s a lovely ground and they are always great hosts.

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

Possibly Ashford United, the matches in the past have always had an extra edge to them with passionate fans on both sides. It will be interesting to see how we get on against them this season. They had a good season last year and we’ll be looking to upset that this term.

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

Catch the train to Bat & Ball Station and take a short walk to the ground, making sure you turn up early to soak up the pre-match atmosphere, which has become a thing at Greatness Park recently. Tracy and her team are always on hand to serve you some refreshments from the café with a smile too.

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?

I always enjoyed watching Kenny Pogue play for Sevenoaks. He was a big hitter for Hastings United and when he arrived at Town we needed goals. He scored something like 18 goals in 18 games for us and was a real crowd pleaser. He always had time to chat to the supporters after the game. He is a true gentleman of the game! For that reason he is my favourite player of all time. Out of the current squad Frankie Sawyer take the crown, his dedication to the club is unrivalled.

9. Who do you predict will finish in the top five this season?
Haywards Heath Town, Sevenoaks Town, Whitehawk, Cray Valley PM, Ramsgate
