Pitching In Isthmian Supporters Predictions 22/23: North Revisit

Predicting what’s about to happen in the forthcoming season is rather difficult. After all, if it were an exact science then bookmakers would go out of business.

Our Pitching In Isthmian North supporters delivered rather a mixed bag.

You were rather caught out by the irresistible force that was Hashtag United, predicting them to finish in seventh place- but you were right on the money when it came to second place AFC Sudbury. You predicted that Grays Athletic would occupy a Play Off place- albeit the wrong one- and you were only a couple of places out when you predicted the finishing positions of Felixstowe & Walton United and Stowmarket Town, although we suspect that both sides would have rather you’d been right, given they narrowly missed out on the top five. You failed to predict the success of Lowestoft Town in reaching third place, and expected Heybridge Swifts to be down in eighth.

Brentwood Town, defeated Play Off Finalists the previous season, caught you out- but then they probably caught us all out!

At the other end, the way that New Salamis adapted to the league caught you out entirely, and you certainly didn’t expect the automatic relegation of Hullbridge Sports and Tilbury, placing them both outside the bottom four- albeit only just in the case of Sports. Witham Town and Basildon United did better than you expected, both quite a few points above the bottom four, but you were absolutely right when you suggested that Great Wakering Rovers would occupy a relegation Play Off place, and not far away with your placing of Coggeshall Town.

You were nearly right with your placing of Gorleston, and you predicted Bury Town’s rather mediocre- by their standards- season.
