Pitching In to the Isthmian League: Billericay Town

By Ian Townsend

We asked a supporter from each of our new or returning members to tell you more about their club. Next up, we head to the Pitching In Isthmian Premier, once more the home of Billericay Town. Rob Street is our guide.

1. Tell us how you became a fan? What attracted you to the club initially?

My dad took me to my first game some 40 plus years ago during the FA Vase winning years. He was a massive fan so that is what attracted me initially.

2. And what is it about the club that has kept you there since?

Seen some highs and some lows. Seen many many managers, players and owners. But this is my home town club and no matter what I always keep going.

3. What does a typical home matchday look like for you?

Recently I have been volunteering as a steward. So on matchdays you will find me looking after the officials and players seating area in the main stand.

4. Is there a moment in the history of your club that supporters always talk about? What would it be- and why is it important to you all?

Older supporters will always talk about the FA Vase winning teams of the 70’s. Newer supporters will refer to the treble winning season of 2017-18. For me it is the Isthmian Premier title of 2011-12. All of these are important to our supporters as they demonstrate the history and standing of Billericay Town Football Club.

5. For the benefit of those who haven’t visited before, describe your ground.

A lot of development has taken place over the last few years. We now have cover the length of all 4 sides. We also have an artificial pitch (so no need to worry if its raining).

6. If an away fan was travelling to your ground for the first time, how would you recommend they got there? Tell us about parking and public transport.

The railway station is about a 15 minute walk away. As for parking, there is some parking at the ground but you would have to arrive early. Other than that. there is plenty of road parking available but always be mindful of local residents. My main tip is NEVER park on Blunts Wall Road that runs along the side of the ground. It’s a one track road that needs to be kept clear

7. Are there any local sights or amenities you’d recommend they visit? Tourist attractions, pubs etc?

Billericay High Street is not far away with lots of pubs and restaurants to choose from. Also if it’s a nice day I recommend a stroll around Lake Meadows park.

8. Finally, pie, burger or pint? What would you recommend, and why?

Pint before and after a Billericay Town win!
