Points required at both ends!

By Ian Townsend

We’ve two matches in the Pitching In Isthmian North Division tonight, and they are both rather important. Here's our preview of the action.

It looks very much as if we have four sides battling for the final play off place at present, with Brentwood Town- who hold pole position- Dereham Town, Hashtag United and Felixstowe & Walton United all on forty eight points as we move into the last quarter of the campaign.

The first of those, Brentwood, are in action tonight, as they travel to AFC Sudbury. The Yellows had promotion pretentions of their own earlier in the season, and indeed were in the top five from their third match until their seventeenth, but haven’t been able to climb back to those heights since, and have fallen to eleventh, seven points behind tonight’s opponents.

The travelling Blues have only lost three of their last ten- two of those defeats coming at the hands of Felixstowe- whilst their hosts also have three defeats from the same period, their problem has been an inability to turn one point into three. With eight draws this season only Witham Town have drawn more matches than AFC Sudbury.

Speaking of Witham, they are on the road for the second match in succession as they travel for a derby match against the Seed Growers, Coggeshall Town. Witham pulled themselves out of the bottom three with an impressive win at Maldon & Tiptree on Friday night, and would love another three points tonight; whilst their hosts finally seem to have got themselves back on an even keel, taking four points from their last two matches after a string of defeats.

The two sides have met six times since Coggeshall’s elevation to our ranks, and Witham haven’t managed a single win from those matches. If they can change that tonight they could climb to within three points of their opponents.
