Proud chairman passes on praise

The proud Blues chairman, who saw his side beaten 2-1 by the title-chasing Ryman Premier side in the first round at Ram Meadow, pictured, was asked to pass on the thanks and praise of the Dulwich Hamlet Supporters' Trust after the group's chairman Duncan Hart wrote to him on Sunday.

Ward said: "It is a great that the efforts of our volunteers have been recognised. On our travels we come across a lot of clubs who pay their staff but ours are totally volunteers and the email capped a very enjoyable day for us, even though we lost."

In his email to the the Ryman North club's chairman, Hart said: "I just want to say what a credit to your club all the volunteers and staff are at Bury Town FC. In all my travels around many grounds in the UK and overseas, I have rarely met such an unqualified welcome.

"From the stewards inside and outside the ground, the golden goal seller, programmer seller, bar staff and fans around the ground ... every single person had a smile and a friendly welcome. I would be grateful if you could pass on my thanks to all involved at the club."

He added: "I wish you well for the rest of the season. You seem to have a good young side that deserves to go back up to Step 3. Ram Meadow certainly deserves to be hosting higher level Non-League football."

Dulwich Hamlet were rewarded with home tie at Champion Hill in the last 32 against either Burscough or Guiseley in Monday lunchtime's draw for the second round proper of the FA Trophy, Non-League's showpiece competition. The Ryman's other flag-bearers, Bognor Regis Town, will host either Altrincham or Leamington at Nyewood Lane when the next round kicks off on Saturday 12 January.
