Rams defeat Wands on Cup Wednesday

A Extra Time winner sees South East Ramsgate knock out Premier Cray, whilst Walthamstow win an all-North clash in the Velocity Cup

After a late comeback on Sunday earned Ramsgate a Emirates FA Cup replay against Cray Wanderers, the side from the seaside finished the job last night, on this occasion an extra time goal earning them glory.

The Rams went ahead on eighteen minutes, and as usual it was Cray old boy and these days nemesis Joe Taylor who did the damage, rather incredibly his eleventh goal in just eight matches so far. An own goal made it two -nil with twenty minutes left, and then the Wands hit the comeback trail. With fourteen minutes remaining Sam Wood headed home a Nyren Clunis cross, and two minutes later the visitors were level, Clunis this time turning from provider to scorer, forcing home a rebound after a penalty was saved. Into extra time we went, and almost immediately Alfie Paxman set up Tijan Jadama, who cut in and restored the Rams lead beautifully.

This time there was to be no comeback, the hosts perhaps asisted a little by a red card for Cray's Cameron Black with nine minutes remaining. Ramsgate will welcome Frome Town in the next round.

We also had a match in the Velocity Cup, and it saw Walthamstow come from behind to defeat New Salamis at Coles Park. Dwade James put the visitors ahead after just fifteen minutes, but they were ahead for only one hundred and eighty seconds before Nathan Mandla equalised, and ten minutes later the hosts were ahead, Cem Poyraz giving them a half time advantage. The equaliser eventually arrived nine minutes after the restart, James with his second of the night- and right at the end of the match, and just when it looked as if we were heading to penalties, Marcus Painter took the plaudits and sent Walthamstow through to Round Three.
