Rams go three clear after four-nil win

Ramsgate see off Chichester City and increase both their lead at the top and their unbeaten run

Ramsgate’s fine season continued at the WW Martin Community Stadium last night, as they won their seventh Pitching In Isthmian South East home match in a row- this one by a significant margin.

Chichester City were the visitors, and they had hit a bump in the road of late, making the trip to the Kent coast with only one win from their previous seven matches. A trip to the leaders was not really what they needed at this point, particularly with striker Joe Taylor ready to menace their defence. City fought hard, and indeed were still in the match with twenty minutes left- but in the end the class of the hosts made the difference.

Taylor opened the scoring just after the half hour- his twenty sixth of the season- but the visitors didn’t fold, and it was the seventy second minute before the Rams gave themselves a cushion. A pass from Jack Parter found Taylor with far too much time and space, and he quickly made it two, giving Kieran Magee little chance.

Three minutes later it was three-nil, Alfie Paxman curling the ball home as Taylor turned provider, and it got worse for City as Emmett Dunn picked up a second yellow card and departed two minutes before anyone else. The ten men were four down a minute later, Paxman set up by substitute Benny Bioletti, and that was that.

Ramsgate are three points clear at the top, having played fewer matches than three of the sides trailing them. Only Cray Valley PM, in fourth, have games in hand over the Rams- two of them, with the Millers having a gap of seven points to make up. The Rams are now twelve games unbeaten- their only league defeat arriving on the opening day.

City are eleventh, seven points away from the top five.
