Rams head to Sussex- can they head back to the top?

By Ian Townsend

At the top, it's a big day for the Rams and Whitehawk. At the other end, it's vital for East Grinstead Town, Sittingbourne, VCD, Bridges and Corinthian. Here's our Pitching In Isthmian South East Preview.

Ramsgate have an unbeaten run which is almost two months long, but have dropped a point behind Chatham Town in the race for the Pitching In Isthmian South East title- albeit with a game in hand. The Rams were perhaps lucky to get a point against Haywards Heath Town last time out, but despite showing a little vulnerability- five draws from their last ten- have become a little vulnerable at a time when most of their rivals have displayed even less consistency. Their hosts, Chichester City, have lost their way and lost their last five, and another Rams win would send them top once more and two points clear.

Whitehawk, with only two defeats from ten and having won seven of their last nine, remain the form side in Pitching In Isthmian South East despite Saturday’s late loss at Chatham. They are six points behind the leaders with a game in hand, and will feel that they shouldn’t yet be counted out of the title race- but they are in need of a win at East Grinstead Town this evening. The Wasps, however, also need the points- they sit three points and two places above the bottom four, but could climb as high as twelfth with victory. The Hawks defeated the Wasps two-nil with second half goals from Harry Shooman and Mo Juwara when the two sides met in October.

Sittingbourne have opened up a four point gap on the bottom four courtesy of a positive run of form which sees them eight matches unbeaten. The Brickies welcome third bottom VCD Athletic to Woodstock, Vickers a point from safety and with only one win from their last ten. Both sides need the points- the visitors particularly, as three points would see Burgess Hill Town replace them in the relegation play off spots.

Finally, Three Bridges will look to open up a larger gap on the bottom four and hammer another nail into Corinthian’s survival chances with victory at Jubilee Field. Bridges have lost their last two, and a previously positive home record has also departed of late; whilst the travelling Hoops picked up their first win in ten last time out but are twelve points from safety, and nine from the comparative safety of a relegation play off place. Bridges defeated these opponents two-nil three weeks ago.
