Rams return to the summit

By Ian Townsend

Second place Ramsgate get a head start on Cray Valley- whilst the Brickies coast to three points and the Nuts and Bolts do an Oaks double

Ramsgate headed to Littlehampton Town, courtesy of some fine work from the Golds ground staff who were wielding pitchforks at half past five in the morning to get the game on. The Rams knew that victory would take them back to the top of the table, and they got it, but it was close. Joe Taylor- of course- opened the scoring after just fifteen minutes, his FORTY FOURTH goal in forty three matches this season, but it took until almost the hour mark before the visitors added a second, Alfie Paxman giving them a little breathing space. They needed it, too, as in added time at the end of the match the Golds got a goal back, Jordan Layton converting from the spot. Sadly for the home fans there wasn’t enough time for an equaliser, and the Rams open up a two point gap at the top- with rivals Cray Valley PM travelling to take on in-form Broadbridge Heath this afternoon.

Third place Sittingbourne were back in action as they welcomed Horndean to their Roman Stadium. The Brickies started the day eleven points clear of sixth place Three Bridges and had won eight of their previous ten- but had been more vulnerable on their own patch than on the road, having lost two of their last three home matches- and with the Deans in impressive form, nothing looked certain for the hosts. It turned out, however, that there was little uncertainty for the hosts, who eased to victory. Mitchell May opened the scoring on eleven minutes, continuing a superb run in front of goal with his eighteenth goal in eighteen matches, and on twenty three minutes Danny Parish made it two. The third arrived a minute into the second half, Harry Hope removing any hope from the visitors, and the Brickies are close to ensuring their play off place- and ten points clear of fourth place Chichester City.

Greatness Park saw Sevenoaks Town welcome Ashford United in a mid table battle. The Oaks play off chances had just about departed despite their eighth place- the gap between them and fifth twelve points at kick off- and their chances of crashing the end of season party look slimmer still after the Nuts and Bolts completed a double over their hosts. Oaks went ahead midway through the first half, Jerald Aboagye with the opener, but Max Walsh quickly levelled and just before the hour Harvey Brand got what proved to be an away winner.

United have won five of the last six meetings between the sides.
