Robins go five clear- whilst Swifts hit Romford for SEVEN

By Ian Townsend

We had only two matches last night, but they delivered ten goals and two clean sheets

Veteran striker Dave Tarpey got goals six, seven and eight for his season in the Channel Islands last night, as title favourites Bracknell Town showed just why they deserve that label. Travelling to Guernsey for the first time, the Robins took the lead after eight minutes when Tarpey fired home from fifteen yards, and valiant efforts from the Green Lions- particularly a Ross Allen free kick which brought a super save from Eacott- couldn't draw them level before the break.

Five minutes after the restart a well struck Tarpey shot from distance took a deflection and as such made a save impossible, and the Robins main man finished off his hat trick with a header nine minutes from time. The victory takes the Robins five points clear of second placed Uxbridge in the Pitching In Isthmian South Central title race, although the other reds have a game in hand.

The Robins host Ashford Town on Saturday, whilst the Green Lions are off to Uxbridge. See more of Scott’s camera work here- and it’s very good indeed.

Into the Pitching In Isthmian North Division now, and Heybridge Swifts bounced back from their hammering at the hands of AFC Sudbury to deliver a hammering of their own, smashing seven goals past Romford at Mayesbrook Park. Boro did finish the match with ten men following a red card for Billy Hayes, but Swifts were already four goals to the good by then. Andrew Fennell is having a fine season, and last night took his goals total up to eight in thirteen matches with a hat trick, two in the first half- with a Darius Ghinea goal sandwiched between them- and another two minutes after the break. In the last eight minutes Romford- by now down to ten- conceded three more, Lewis Gard getting the first of those, Lionel Ainsworth the last two.

Swifts are up to twelfth, and have done their goal difference a power of good prior to travelling to Brentwood Town on Saturday, whilst Romford are second from bottom having fallen to their third consecutive defeat. They host Dereham Town at the weekend.
