Robins go twenty points clear- whilst most of the chasing pack slip up, and Northwood set another record

By Ian Townsend

Bracknell continue to do Bracknell things, and only the Geordies and Basingstoke Town of the chasing pack win. It’s our round up from the Pitching In South Central Division, which also has big wins for the Chips and Westfield.

Our leaders Bracknell Town, having conceded only eight goals all season, were facing what looked- on paper at least- like it might be their biggest test as they travelled to Marlow, who had only let in nine. Well nine became ten after only four minutes, Seb Bowerman putting the Robins ahead from the spot, but the hosts hit back, Nnamdi Nwachuku’s nineteenth of the season drawing them level twelve minutes before the break. With fifteen minutes to go it looked like a point apiece would be the outcome, but the Robins thought otherwise, a double from Duncan Culley putting them a rather incredible TWENTY POINTS AHEAD at the top of the table.

Chertsey Town, in second place as we kicked off, had a nightmare start against Chipstead. Sam Bell rang the visitors ahead after eight minutes, and only five minutes later Andy Kabuikusomo made it two. Bell got a third on twenty minutes, and then the Curfews finally woke and got two back- Jake Baxter doing what Jake Baxter does and Lewis Jackson making it two-three just before the break. The Chips weren’t downhearted, and they got goal number four ten minutes from time- Warren Colman making sure of the points.

Social media sensations Hanwell Town travelled to Sutton Common Rovers, and Tom Collins twenty second of the season put them ahead just before the break. That turned out to be the only goal of the game, and it was enough to send the Geordies up to third. Image courtesy of the club (and we suspect from Elsa Jones).

Uxbridge and Northwood weren’t separated- or scoring- in the first half at Honeycroft, but the visitors, who had won five consecutive away matches, struck thirteen minutes after the break, Teddy Stacey breaking the deadlock. Josh Helmore, with his sixth goal in seven matches since joining from Binfield, wrapped up victory in the second half. That’s six away wins in a row for the Woods, who must wish they could travel every week!

Basingstoke Town and Staines Town couldn’t find a way past each other’s keepers in the first half, but goodness didn’t Stoke turn that around after the break, scoring four! Rob Sheridan made the breakthrough after sixty six minutes, Stefan Brown made it two from the spot three minutes later, Anton Rogers got number three on seventy three and Conor Lynch wrapped things up in the last minute.

Our early kick off was in Woking, where Westfield welcomed Guernsey. Salhin Abubakar, making his debut for the hosts after his move from Hanwell Town, turned out to be the matchwinner- scoring the only goal of the game just after half an hour. Field climbed to eleventh.

Binfield welcomed Ashford Town, and were a little too welcoming early on, Dan Brown playing the role of both Angel and Demon- depending on your point of view- when scoring after sixteen minutes. The equaliser came right at the end, and it went to Sean Moore, who earned the Moles a point.

Thatcham Town saw Taylor Harry put them ahead against Bedfont Sports after twenty two minutes, and although Dan Williams drew Sports level nine minutes later the hosts were back in the lead before the break, Simeon Weekes making it two-one. Weeks made it three-one with twenty minutes left, but the usual late Lazarus act from Sports saw them score two, Darryl Sanders getting one from the spot with seventeen minutes left and then an equaliser in the last minute.

Tooting & Mitcham United and managerless South Park swapped goals in the first half, Mark Waters making the breakthrough for the Terrors before Adam Aziz equalised for the visitors from the spot. They couldn’t score any after the break, and a point was the outcome.
