Robins hit the summit

Carshalton Athletic top the table after two own goals help them to victory

Carshalton Athletic are the new leaders of the Pitching In Isthmian Premier Division, after a three-one win over Horsham- but they had to rely on the visitors to help them to victory.

The Robins went in at half time two goals to the good, but some terrible luck for the Hornets meant that both of those goals- in the eleventh and twenty fifth minutes- were scored by a visiting player in the wrong net.

It wasn't that Horsham were short on chances, as some inspired goalkeeping and last-ditch defending saw them kept at bay. And these weren't the kind of own goals that could later end up on a bloopers DVD narrated by Ian Wright (other former professional luminaries are available), but the Robins gleefully took advantage, and got a third goal ten minutes after the break as a counter attack saw Nyren Clunis set up Omar Koroma for a tap in- his fifth goal of the season. Charlie Harris managed to pull one back from the spot in the last minute, but it just wasn't the Hornets night.

Horsham end the night in twelfth place.

Carshalton's stay at the top could be ended as soon as this evening if Cheshunt manage to overcome visitors Folkestone Invicta, whilst Enfield Town could climb as high as fourth- higher if they win by a landslide- if they can defeat Kingstonian. A K's win could see them climb into the top five, too, but they'd need to record a rather remarkable result to get any higher than fifth!
