Margate dropped their first points of the 2014-15 Ryman Premier season when they were held to a 1-1 draw at Hartsdown Park by fourth-placed Leiston, who have also started well, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

A crowd of 717 saw veteran Cliff Akurang give the Suffolk visitors a 78th minute breakthrough. And a first defeat was starring Terry Brown's side firmly in the face until Charlie Allen popped up with a stoppage time leveller.

Margate's Kent rivals Maidstone United bounced back from last week's derby defeat by Tonbridge Angels to beat Canvey Island 5-2 at home in front of another excellent crowd of 1,511.

Frannie Collin gave the Stones a great start with a goal inside three minutes and it was all over bar the shouting by half-time as the hosts bagged three more through Jack Parkinson in the 16th and 26th minutes and Alex Flisher five minutes before the break.

Victor Osobu and Rob Bartley pulled two late goals back for the Gulls in the 86th and 89th minutes but Collin's second in injury-time made if a nap hand for the Stones.

Wingate & Finchley are up to third after they recorded a fifth win from seven games at home against AFC Hornchurch – last season's play-off finalists now finding themselves bottom of the table with just one point. Karl Oliyide scored the only goal in the 18th minute.

Kingstonian complete the top five after winning 2-0 at Longmead against Tonbridge, Nathaniel Pinney giving the K`s an early eighth minute lead that Andre McCollin eventually added to with 16 minutes to go.

It was an afternoon of firsts at Oakwood where newly-promoted Witham Town suffered a first defeat and hosts VCD Athletic, who also came up, a first win.

Witham had drawn five and won one of their previous six matches but fell behind to a fourth minute Nick Reeves goal. And then three minutes from the end of the game, Lea Dawson made sure with the Vickers` second.

Dulwich Hamlet went down to a second consecutive defeat as they let slip a one goal lead at New Lodge against Billericay Town.

Hamlet broke the deadlock two minutes into the second half through Bagasan Graham. Steve Sheehan equalised after 65 minutes and a scrappy winner on 76 minutes after an error by Hamlet 'keeper Inigo Echepare proved costly, with Seedy Njie the grateful recipient.

Two teams without a win - Hampton & Richmond Borough and Lewes – met at the Beveree and it was the home side who broke their duck.

Charlie Moone notched his third of the season from the penalty spot just after half-time to put the Beavers 1-0 up. George Wells got reward for Luke Wanadio's great work to double the side's advantage a few minutes later but there could have been a sting in the tail. Lewes got one back as Ollie Rowe side footed home from close range on 67 minutes.

Bognor Regis Town are the other side yet to taste victory in 2014-15 and they shared a 1-1 draw at Ram Meadow against Bury Town. Both goals came within a minute either side of the half-time break, with Nathan Clarke giving the home side the lead and Harvey Whyte levelling immediately after the restart.

Harrow Borough enjoyed a good 3-1 win at Rookery Hill against East Thurrock United. And they had to come back from being a 41st minute Mitch Gilbey goal down to win, thanks to goals from Spencer Bellotti after 51 minutes, Michael Peacock on 69 and Steve Butterworth in injury-time.

Brad Quinton's tenure as manager of Enfield Town got off to a great start as he saw his new charges win 3-0 at Hendon.

It was goalless at the break and then seven minutes into the second period Corey Whitely gave the visitors the lead. Nathan Livings added a second in the 71st minute and victory was assured 6 minutes later when Whitely bagged his second of the game.

The other game between Metropolitan Police and Leatherhead ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw at Imber Court.

Ryan James gave the Met a 14th minute lead that Vasileous Karagannis cancelled out six minutes later. Kiernan Hughes-Mason then gave the Tanners a 31st minute lead that Richard Avery added to a minute before the break. But Charlie Collins began the Met`s comeback in the 54th minute and a minute from the end of normal time, Michael Charles levelled it at 3-3.
