Saturday's Ryman Premier action review

Ryman League Premier Division

Although it was FA Trophy day, most of the promotion contenders in the Ryman Premier were in league action, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Margate maintained their seven-point lead after a 2-0 Hartsdown Park win over Grays Athletic, while second-placed Maidstone United also won against relegation-threatened VCD Athletic.

Ryan Moss gave Margate a 26th minute lead in front of a crowd of 562. John Beales, who had come on as an early 26th minute substitute, doubled their lead on 76 minutes and a minute from time striker Jamie Taylor added a third for Terry Brown`s side.

Another big crowd of 1,903 was at the Gallagher Stadium to see Maidstone beat VCD. But it took the Stones an hour to break down their determined visitors when Jay May netted the opener. And then 12 minutes from time, much-wanted Alex Flisher made sure the points went to the home side when he added number two.

Dulwich Hamlet are fourth after a 2-1 win over a Kingstonian side who are falling behind in the race for the play-offs.

In front of another good crowd of 1,027 at Champion Hill, the K's got off to a decent start when Alan Inns put them in front after 33 minutes. But sub Harry Ottaway equalised on 76 minutes and then, with less than three minutes remaining, Nyren Clunis won it for Hamlet.

Wingate & Finchley were looking to rekindle their top five challenge when they hosted mid-table Hampton & Richmond Borough at the Harry Abrahams Stadium but instead they were forced to come back from 2-0 down and be happy with a point in the end.

Marcus Rose gave the Beavers an early seventh minute lead and it got even better for the visitors when Tom Collins doubled their advantage on 27 minutes. A cruel own goal accredited to Kieran Murphy pulled the home side back into the game after 57 minutes and a David Knight penalty seven minutes from time gave Wingate a share of the spoils.

Bury Town remain bottom of the table after going down to a comprehensive 4-1 defeat at the Village Glass Stadium to a Witham Town outfit who were only just above the drop zone at start of play.

Ellis Brown gave the Essex hosts an early seventh minute lead that Justin Miller cancelled out within a minute. But that was as good as it got for the Blues as recent signing Conference South neighbours Chelmford City, Luke Callander, helped himself to a hat-trick with goals in the 10th, 15th and 50th minutes to complete victory.

Witham moved above Harrow Borough into nineteenth place after Dave Anderson's side were hammered 5-0 at the Queen Eliszabeth II Stadium by Enfield Town, for whom this was a seventh league game without defeat.

Harrow got off to a terrible start when they found themselves 2-0 down inside the opening eight minutes to goals from Nathan Livings and Jonathan Constant. They managed to re-group until five minutes into the second half when Town netted two more in two minutes through Tyler Campbell and Constant again. And they made it a nap hand through Phil Kane after 64 minutes.
