Saturday's Ryman Premier action review

By David Watters

No side possesses a 100 per cent record in the Ryman League's top flight following Saturday`s third round of matches, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Several remain unbeaten, including Dulwich Hamlet, who top the fledgling table after being held to a 1-1 draw at Earlsmead by Hendon. It had looked as though Hamlet were going to be beaten for the first time as they trailed to a 65th minute Scott Shulton effort right until two minutes from time but Ashley Carew rescued his side from the penalty spot.

Dulwich Hamlet are joined on seven points by Leiston, Bognor Regis Town and Grays Athletic.

Leiston ensured newly-promoted Merstham are still searching for a first Premier Division point with a 2-0 win at the Moatside, courtesy of Patrick Brothers after 51 minutes and Joe Francis seven minutes from time.

Bognor had a great chance to make it three successive wins when hosts Canvey Island were reduced to ten-men with only 38 minutes gone on the clock when Ashley Dumas received a second yellow card – his first coming after less than three minutes. But the ten-men went into half-time in front through a Martin Tuohy effort right on the whistle. And it looked as though the Gulls were going to hang on, until Jason Prior popped up to break their hearts with 90th minute equaliser.

Grays put a halt to newly-promoted Burgess Hill Town's 100 percent start by winning 2-1 at Leylands Park.

Dumebi Dumaka maintained his good start to the season by opening Grays' account after 25 minutes. And Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson doubled the Essex side`s advantage on the hour mark, Chris Smith coming off the bench to pull one back for the Hillians in the last minute but it came too late.

Joining Merstham on nil-points are Enfield Town and VCD Athletic.

Town were comfortably beaten 3-0 at fancied Billericay Town, for whom this was a first win but also a third unbeaten game. Tom Derry gave the home side a 27th minute lead and Enfield`s day got worse three minutes later when they had Tayshan Hayden-Smith shown a straight red card. George Beavan doubled `Ricay`s lead right on the half-time whistle and then Onome Sodje made it 3-0 from the spot just shy of the hour-mark.

VCD, playing only their second game, went down to a 2-0 defeat to newly-promoted Brentwood Town at the Arena – their first points as a Premier Division club. Ryan Rowe put Town in the lead after 13 minutes and after 32 minutes they doubled that, thanks to Shad Ngandu.

Kingstonian emphatically scored their first win and won their first points of the season with an outstanding seven-goal win over previously unbeaten Metropolitan Police.

Dan Bennett helped himself to a hat-trick, with Peter Dean, Pelayo Pico Gomez, Jake Kempton and Ty Smith all on the scoresheet as Tommy Williams' men produced a first win. The result was the largest win ever over Metropolitan Police, and the biggest since the K's defeated Walton & Hersham by the same score in March 1998.

Staines Town also recorded their first win back in the Ryman League, but they could only manage one goal at Wheatsheaf Park against Leatherhead, courtesy of Michael Kalu eight minutes before half-time.
