Saturday's Ryman Premier action review

By David Watters

Dulwich Hamlet returned to the top of the Ryman Premier table after they comfortably beat Harrow Borough and overnight leaders Hampton & Richmond Borough lost at fourth-placed Bognor Regis Town, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Hamlet took a 39th minute lead through Nyren Clunis at Champion Hill in front of a terrific crowd of 2,012.

But the real game-changer came two minutes after the restart when Boro `keeper Brendan Hazlett handled the ball outside the box and was sent-off. With no substitute keeper on the bench, Lewis Driver was forced to don the gloves and he conceded three times.

Damian Scannell added number two just past the hour-mark, Clunis bagged his second and Hamlet`s third on 77 minutes and sub Jacob Erskine made it 4-0 with eight minutes remaining.

Hampton relinquished leadership as they suffered their first defeat since the start of November.

Having gone top in our great unbeaten run, the Beavers have now slipped to third place. Alfie Rutherford`s goal after 74 minutes was enough for all three points in front of 620 supporters in Sussex.

But what made matters worse was the fact the hosts had ten-men for most of the second half. Ollie Pearce was red carded five minutes after half-time but Hampton not only couldn't make their numerical advantage pay, they went on to let the points slip through their grasp.

East Thurrock United moved above the Beavers into second spot after winning 2-0 at Leylands Park against Burgess Hill Town.

Lewis Smith broke the deadlock to give the Rocks a 72nd minute lead and then just four minutes later, Tom Wraight made the points safe with a second.

Two goals from leading scorer Christy Finch helped Leiston return to the play-off spots against fourth-bottom VCD Athletic.

He opened the scoring on nine minutes, converting from a tight angle after Gareth Heath's effort had rattled off the upright. Eleven minutes later and he powerfully headed home a Billy Clark corner before a curling Gareth Heath effort saw the Blues three-up by half-time.

The division had five of its scheduled games postponed, and in the others that did go ahead, Grays Athletic and Wingate & Finchley shared a goalless draw at Mill Field.

Canvey Island ended a five-game run without a win thanks to a 1-0 success at The Prospects Stadium against second-bottom Farnborough, courtesy of a goal 10 minutes from time from Martin Tuohy.

Brentwood Town moved up to fourth-bottom after a vital 3-1 win at the Moatside Stadium against Merstham.

And they had to come back from being a 58th minute Antone Douglas goal down to win, thanks to Lewis Knight after 62 minutes, Leon Gordon six minutes later and then Tom Richardson in stoppage time.
